Tara calculator: your tara for the next 7 days

Choose a birth nakshatra to see the tara for each of the next 7 days, worked out in your browser. No birth date needed, and your choice isn't saved or sent anywhere.

Don't know your birth nakshatra? Jyotishya works it out from your birth date, time and place, on your device; it's under "You, in three systems". Or read the worked example.

How the tara is counted

Count from your birth nakshatra (as 1) to the nakshatra the Moon is in, around all 27: count = ((day nakshatra − birth nakshatra) mod 27) + 1. The tara is count mod 9, so the nine taras repeat three times around the zodiac.

Countmod 9TaraPoints
11Janma (lit. birth)0
22Sampat (lit. wealth)+1
33Vipat (lit. danger)−1
44Kshema (lit. well-being)+1
55Pratyak (lit. obstacle)−1
66Sadhana (lit. achievement)+1
77Naidhana (lit. destruction)−2
88Mitra (lit. friend)+1
90Parama Mitra (lit. best friend)+1

Counts 10 to 18 and 19 to 27 repeat the same nine. The literal translations are labels, not predictions.

Each shows its tara, count mod 9 (Ja Janma, Sm Sampat, Vi Vipat, Ks Kshema, Pr Pratyak, Sd Sadhana, Na Naidhana, Mi Mitra, PM Parama Mitra), coloured by score; the nine taras repeat three times. What this calculator leaves out

Jyotishya's Vedic day rating adds a second rule, the Moon's house counted from your natal Moon sign (Chandra gochara), which needs your Moon sign and so your birth details. The full rating, with both rules and the Western and Chinese systems beside it, is in the app. The day is read at noon; the Moon enters a new nakshatra about once a day, so a panchang that reads at sunrise can show the previous one. The tara bala method note has the details.
